KATERINA PAPANIKOLAOU M.D., Ph.D.
Katerina Papanikolaou was born in Athens, Greece, in 1965 and since 2021 is a Professor in Child Psychiatry and Head of the Department of Child Psychiatry of the Athens University Medical School.
She trained in medicine at the Athens University Medical School (1982-1988) and after doing her residency in neurology (1/1989-7/1989), psychiatry (8/1989-2/1991) and child psychiatry (3/1991-5/93) she received the Certificate of Child Psychiatric Specialty in 1992 after board examinations. His doctoral thesis “The role of meta-analysis in assessing the efficacy of antidepressants in child and adolescent depression” was presented to the Athens University Medical School in 2003.
She has been appointed as an Honorary Senior Registrar in Child and Family Psychiatric Services Leicester, UK (6/1994-4/1995), as a Clinical Research Worker at Institute of Psychiatry, MRC Child Psychiatry and as an Honorary Associate Specialist at the Maudsley Hospital, London, UK (4/1995-8/1996). She worked as an NHS Child Psychiatrist at the Department of Child Psychiatry, Athens University Medical School between 1998 and 2003.
She has been in charge of the autism clinic of the Department of Child Psychiatry, Athens University Medical School since 1998.
Dr.Papanikolaou’ research activities have focused mainly on autism, meta-analytic methdology, cognitive therapy, childhood obesity. She has participated in several national, European, and international research programs. She is the author or co-author of more than 80 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and has more than 8000 citations.
